As India has been upgrading the military equipment and even buying modern combat aircraft to strengthen its Air Force, New Delhi now may also sign the pending deal to acquire two additional Israeli-made PHALCON airborne early warning and control systems (AWACS) aircraft from Israel in an attempt to bolster the Indian Air Force’s (IAF) surveillance capabilities.
India’s Cabinet Committee on Security (CCS) would give its final nod to the deal after extensive inter-ministerial consultations, sources said.

The deal was derailed several times in the past owing to the high costs involved.
Considered potent “eyes in the sky”, AWACS aircraft are able to detect as well as track incoming fighters, cruise missiles during air combat with enemy jets.
