In a letter to the UN Security Council (UNSC), Iran’s foreign minister Mohammad Javad Zarif said the United States lost the right to make demands in 2018 when it withdrew from the landmark nuclear deal between Iran and six major world powers that was endorsed by the Security Council.

Mr Zarif also said the United States’ unilateral pullout violated a UN resolution that needed signatories to avoid any damage to the deal.

However, US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo insisted the US has the legal right to “snap back” UN sanctions even though President Trump pulled out of the 2015 nuclear deal.
