The Ministry of Home Affairs announced on Friday, December 27, that space will be allocated for a memorial dedicated to Dr Manmohan Singh. The decision comes in response to a formal request made earlier in the day by Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge.
“Immediately after the Cabinet meeting, Home Minister Amit Shah communicated to Congress President Kharge and the family of Dr Manmohan Singh that the government will allocate space for the memorial. In the meantime, cremation and other formalities can proceed, as a trust has to be formed and the space allocated to it,” the ministry said in a statement.
Dr Manmohan Singh, who passed away on Thursday, December 26, at the age of 92, is being accorded full State honours during his funeral, scheduled for Saturday, December 28. His mortal remains are currently at the AICC headquarters until 9:30 am for public and party workers to pay their respects.
