The Indian cricket team paid tribute to former Prime Minister Dr. Manmohan Singh by wearing black armbands on the second day of the fourth Test against Australia at the Melbourne Cricket Ground (MCG). Singh, who served as India’s Prime Minister from 2004 to 2014, passed away at the age of 92 on Thursday, December 26, at the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS), New Delhi.

In a statement, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) said:
“The Indian team is wearing black arm bands as a mark of respect in the memory of former PM Dr. Manmohan Singh, who passed away.”

Dr. Singh, widely regarded as a distinguished economist, was the architect of India’s 1991 economic reforms, which transformed the country’s economic landscape. His policies are credited with pulling India back from the brink of bankruptcy and initiating an era of economic liberalisation that reshaped the nation’s trajectory.
