Three volunteers will be administered the first dose of the Oxford-AstraZeneca COVID-19 Vaccine candidate at Mumbai’s King Edward’s Hospital on Saturday, September 26. KEM Hospital’s Dean confirmed that the doses are being administered after their consent and that they do not have any comorbidities.

“Three participants were screened after obtaining their consent, they did not have any comorbidities”, he said.

According to BMC, more number of people will be screened which will take the number of volunteers to 23.

BYL Nair Hospital also attested to the trial process, as it will start the administration of the first doses, to be eligible volunteers on September 28.

Covidshield has been developed and is being tested by researchers at Oxford University and is being made and manufactured by the Pune-based Serum Institute of India.

“We will administer the first dose of the COVID-19 vaccine to the three volunteers on Saturday, following which they will have to remain in the hospital for two hours to check whether they develop any complications.” Additional Municipal Commissioner Suresh Kakani said. Those administered with the dose will be given a second dose after 29 days post the screening of their situation.

Last week, the Drugs Controller General of India gave Serum Institute of India to perform the second and third phase of human clinical trials of Covidshield.
