Kagiso Rbada is the star bowler for the Delhi Capitals. When in doubt the skipper turns towards him and hopes that he will be able to get the team the desired breakthrough. Apart from Bumrah who represents Mumbai Indians, Rabada is the only bowler to have bowled two super overs in an IPL. Both the times he has done so, the team has been successful and has won the match.
He has taken big wickets in the super over with the likes of KL Rahul, Andre Russel and Nicholas Pooran all getting out at the bowling of the South African. He adjusts and changes his plan according to the batsman he has to bowl to. In terms of Russell, he chose Yorkers while for Rahul he chose things differently. “It just depends what’s working for me on the day, and getting a feel for what might work as well,” Rabada said of the match against Kings XI Punjab. “It differs… today was just mixing the lengths up and luckily it helped. Sometimes it doesn’t go for you, sometimes it does.” He said.
In the match against KXIP, he only conceded 3 runs and took two wickets which ended the inning for the opposition and DC won the match easily. “There was also decent bounce in this wicket, and the boundaries are quite big so it’s going to take a good hit to clear it,” he said, explaining why he went for the short ball. “So I just backed myself with the extra pace and bounce, so that hopefully he doesn’t hit it over the fence (laughs). It was a bit of a gamble”.
While Rabada helped the DC camp win the last match against KXIP in a nail bitting super over finish the eyes will be on him again against one of the most successful sides in the IPL. Will he be able to help DC cross the line against CSK and take revenge for the loss in the final last year? CSK will play DC on 25 September.
