Educational institutions in Assam reopened on Monday after a gap of 6 months. The attendance in colleges and schools was very less in wake of the COVID-19 pandemic. According to the SOP released by the Assam government, classes for 12th and 9th-grade students will be on Monday, Wednesday and Friday and classes for students of 10th and 11th grade will be on Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday.
All precautionary measures were followed during the classes, students and staff have to wear masks and maintain social-distancing. Only 50% of the staff is allowed and there is provision of thermal screening at entrances. Students are only allowed to attend classes if they have a no-objection certificate from their guardians. As many parents were wary of sending their children to schools many schools recorded attendance as low as 10%. Many educationists say that opening of schools was necessary for the benefit of children from rural areas as they were not able to attend online classes and were at a disadvanage.
