Mercedes-Benz India has announced a voluntary recall for the current-generation Maybach S-Class, affecting 386 units manufactured between April 29, 2021, and January 27, 2024. Additionally, one unit of the Mercedes-Benz S-Class, manufactured on April 21, 2021, is also part of the recall. The issue stems from a software flaw in the Engine Control Unit (ECU) that could lead to several risks.

The outdated ECU software may cause excessive exhaust temperatures, potentially damaging vital components like the engine wiring harness and catalytic converter. In some cases, it could lead to a loss of propulsion without warning, and the risk of fire cannot be ruled out.

Mercedes-Benz is expected to contact affected customers directly to resolve the issue through a software update. While the company has yet to release an official statement, the recall highlights a serious safety concern for luxury car owners.

The Mercedes-Benz S-Class and Maybach S-Class are the brand’s flagship saloons, with prices starting at ₹1.77 crore for the S-Class and ₹2.72 crore for the Maybach S-Class (ex-showroom). These models offer powerful engine options, including the 4.0-litre V8 in the S 580 and the 6.0-litre V12 in the S 680, delivering an unmatched driving experience.
