Bassist Mohini Dey has finally broken her silence on the speculation surrounding her separation from husband Mark Hurtsuch, and its alleged connection to AR Rahman’s recent split from his wife Saira Banu. In a recent social media post, Mohini addressed the trolls and urged everyone to respect her privacy.

Mohini breaks her silence

Mohini revealed that she had been inundated with interview requests, but had declined them all, stating that she didn’t want to waste her energy on “baseless rumours.” Her caption read, “I’ve been getting a humungous amount of requests for interviews and I know exactly what it’s about so, I have to respectfully turn each one down because I am not interested in fuelling into ABSOLUTE BS. I believe my energy is not worth spending on RUMOURS. Kindly, respect my privacy (sic).”

More about the split

Earlier in the day, AR Rahman’s son, Ameen, had strongly condemned the “baseless” rumours connecting his parents’ separation to Mohini Dey. Ameen took to Instagram to set the record straight, writing, “My father is a legend, not just for his incredible contributions, but for the values, respect, and love he has earned over the years. It’s disheartening to see false and baseless rumors being spread. Let us all remember the importance of truth and respect when speaking about someone’s life and legacy.”

The speculation surrounding AR Rahman’s separation from his wife Saira Banu has been rampant since the news broke on November 19. Saira had released a statement through her lawyer, stating that the decision to end their marriage was made after “significant emotional strain” in their relationship. AR Rahman and Saira Banu had been married for over 28 years, having tied the knot in Chennai in 1995.

On Tuesday night, Rahman released a note that read, “We had hoped to reach the grand thirty, but all things, it seems, carry an unseen end. Even the throne of God might tremble at the weight of broken hearts. Yet, in this shattering, we seek meaning, though the pieces may not find their place again. To our friends, thank you for your kindness and for respecting our privacy as we walk through this fragile chapter.” Their lawyer has said that the couple is aiming for an amicable divorce.
