Tata Power has announced its acquisition of a 40% equity stake in Khorlochhu Hydro Power Limited (KHPL), a Bhutan-based hydropower company. The acquisition is part of Tata Power’s strategy to expand its clean energy portfolio. The total investment in KHPL is expected to be approximately ₹830 crore, made in multiple tranches, with the first tranche expected to be completed by March 31, 2025, and subsequent investments spread over five years.

KHPL is developing a 600 MW hydropower project in Bhutan with an estimated project cost of ₹6,900 crore. Tata Power’s investment will allow the company to strengthen its presence in the green energy sector, aligning with its focus on clean and renewable energy sources.

Following the acquisition, KHPL will become an associate company of Tata Power, though no related-party transactions are involved in this deal. Tata Power has confirmed that no Indian governmental approvals are required for this acquisition.
