Ashok Leyland, a leading commercial vehicle manufacturer and part of the Hinduja Group, saw its shares rise by nearly 2% after its subsidiary, OHM Global Mobility, secured a significant order for 500 electric buses from the Metropolitan Transport Corporation (MTC), Chennai. The deal involves supplying 400 non-AC and 100 AC buses, all based on the EiV12 model developed by Switch Mobility, another subsidiary of Ashok Leyland.
This order strengthens Ashok Leyland’s position in the bus segment and demonstrates its commitment to sustainable urban mobility. OHM will operate and maintain these buses over a 12-year period as part of the contract with MTC. The 12-meter ultra-low-floor buses are designed for long city routes, offering a range of over 200 kilometers per charge, making them suitable for Chennai’s urban landscape.
Shenu Agarwal, MD & CEO of Ashok Leyland, expressed excitement over the partnership, stating that this move further reinforces the company’s commitment to green public transportation and technological advancement. The SWITCH EiV12 buses combine cutting-edge technology, reliability, and comfort, designed to cater to modern cities’ needs.
With over 950 Switch electric vehicles already in operation, this new order adds to a growing order book of over 2,000 vehicles, positioning Ashok Leyland as a key player in India’s transition to electric mobility.
