Mothercare plc and Reliance Brands Holding UK Limited have formed a strategic joint venture to own and manage the Mothercare brand across India, Nepal, Sri Lanka, Bhutan, and Bangladesh. Under the agreement, Reliance Brands will hold a 51% stake in the venture, while Mothercare Global Brand Limited will retain 49%. This venture, with an acquisition cost of £16 million (approximately ₹175 crore), aims to enhance growth opportunities and leverage the strengths of both organizations.

Darshan Mehta, Managing Director of Reliance Brands Limited, expressed excitement about the deeper collaboration, highlighting the long-standing trust in the Mothercare brand in India. Currently, Reliance operates 87 Mothercare stores across 25 cities and has a robust presence on e-commerce platforms.

Clive Whiley, Chairman of Mothercare, emphasized that this partnership solidifies their operations in South Asia and showcases the brand’s intrinsic value. The new entity, named JVCO 2024 Ltd, will oversee franchise operations and manage all intellectual property related to the Mothercare brand in the specified regions.
