Kawasaki India is all set to release a road-legal version of the KLX 230 Rs off-road vehicle, the KLX 230 S. Set to be released on October 17, the company has been working on localising the manufacturing of the motorcycle after spy photographs of the bike surfaced earlier.

Unlike the KLX 230 Rs, the road-legal KLX 230 S will include a headlamp, indicators, mirrors, dual-purpose tyres and registration, enabling it to be legally ridden on paved roads. The design is identical to its off-road cousin, but upgrades have been made to make it more road-friendly.

The Kawasaki KLX 230 S boasts a 5-speed transmission and an air-cooled 233 cc single-cylinder mill that can produce 19.73 bhp at 8,000 rpm and 20.3 Nm at 6,000 rpm. This puts the dual-sport bike in the same league as the Xpulse 200 4V. The motor is supported by a Uni-Trak linked monoshock at the back and a 37 mm telescopic fork at the front, both of which are mounted inside a high-tensile steel box-section perimeter frame.

The bike is equipped with dual-purpose tyres and 21–18 wire-spoke wheels. Disc brakes on both ends are in charge of braking.
