On Day 3 of the opening Test in Chennai, Rishabh Pant provided a moment of light-heartedness while India continued to dominate Bangladesh. With India in a commanding position after posting 376 in their first innings and bowling Bangladesh out for 149, Pant showcased not only his batting prowess but also a playful cricketing brain, reminiscent of former captain MS Dhoni.

During the session, Pant humorously advised Bangladesh captain Najmul Hossain Shanto to reposition a fielder, noticing the lack of coverage on the leg-side. “Arey idhar aayega ek. Idhar kam fielder hai (Hey, put a fielder here. There aren’t many fielders here),” Pant suggested, pointing towards the leg side. Surprisingly, Shanto followed Pant’s advice and moved a fielder to midwicket.

This moment drew comparisons to MS Dhoni, who had similarly directed Bangladesh’s Sabbir Rahman to adjust field placements during the 2019 World Cup, leaving fans amused by the striking similarity.

Pant’s cheeky exchange occurred as he and Shubman Gill steadied India’s second innings, pushing the team’s lead to an imposing figure. Despite India’s shaky start, Pant and Gill’s partnership further dented Bangladesh’s morale as they battled on. Earlier, Jasprit Bumrah’s four-wicket haul, supported by Mohammed Siraj, Akash Deep, and Ravindra Jadeja, had already put India firmly in control of the match.
