Ahead of the parliamentary session, Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Monday asked all parliamentarians send a message of support to the army soldiers who are guarding the border in tough terrains. He said that the session needs to send a message that the nation stands with our jawans. “The current session of the parliament is distinct for another reason. Our soldiers are performing their duties on the borders with chivalry. they are deployed in inaccessible hilly areas where snowfall will also start soon,” the Prime Minister said. “Our soldiers are standing firm at the borders with a lot of courage, passion and a strong resolve to protect their motherland. They are standing on difficult heights and in a few days, will weather snow. In the same manner, I am confident MPs will send a message, in one voice that it stands firmly behind soldiers guarding our borders,” he added. “Sadan ek swar see, ek bhavna see, ek sankalo see yeh sandesh dega ki sena ke jawaano ke saath pura desh khada hai,” were his call to the house for sending out a message to the soldiers who are determined to protect their motherland.
Currently the Army is engaged in a standoff with Chinese troops in easter Ladakh and his remarks are apparently reference to this tense situation.
Responding to PM Modi, Congress MP Shashi Tharoor said that no political party is against the Army but added that the government is accountable to the Parliament and needs to explain what has been happening at the border and in the talks with the Chinese. Tharoor added that the nation needs to be taken into confidence over the border tiff with China.
