The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) announced on Sunday that it has uncovered significant evidence in its ongoing corruption investigation against Sandip Ghosh, the former principal of Kolkata’s RG Kar Medical College and Hospital. This probe is part of a broader investigation that also includes the brutal rape and murder of a 31-year-old postgraduate trainee doctor at the hospital.
A CBI official confirmed the discovery, stating, “There’s a lot,” hinting at the volume of evidence gathered.
Earlier in the day, CBI officials conducted searches at the residences of Ghosh, former MSVP Sanjay Vashisth, and 13 others in and around Kolkata. These searches were connected to the investigation into alleged financial irregularities at the institution.
The Trinamool Congress (TMC) criticized the CBI for the slow progress in solving the murder case. TMC leader Kunal Ghosh expressed frustration, saying, “The rape-murder case must be solved quickly. So far, only one arrest has been made, and that too by Kolkata Police. What is the CBI doing? As the investigation drags on, politics is taking over.”
Meanwhile, Sanjoy Roy, the prime accused in the Kolkata murder case, underwent a lie detector test at Kolkata’s Presidency Jail. Along with Roy, three other individuals, including Sandip Ghosh, also took the polygraph test on Saturday as part of the ongoing investigation.
