Hamas has rejected new Israeli conditions in the ongoing Gaza ceasefire talks, sticking to a proposal made on July 2. Osama Hamdan, a senior Hamas official, stated on Hamas-run Al-Aqsa TV that any reports of an imminent deal are false.
Despite this, reports from Israel’s Channel 12 suggest that negotiations in Cairo are progressing positively. According to unnamed officials, Hamas leader Yahya Sinwar is under significant pressure to agree to the proposed deal. The Israeli negotiating team has returned to Israel and will discuss the next steps with Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.
The United States, Egypt, and Qatar have been working for months to broker an end to the conflict between Hamas and Israel. The war, which began after Hamas’s attack on Israel on October 7, has devastated Gaza, displacing much of the population and causing a severe humanitarian crisis.
