Shueisha’s MANGA Plus has announced that Hokkaido Gals Are Super Adorable! will wrap up with two special chapters. The penultimate chapter is set to be released on August 27th, and the final chapter will be available on September 10th, coinciding with the series’ fifth anniversary. As of May 2024, the manga has been collected into thirteen tankōbon volumes.
Created by Kai Ikada, Hokkaido Gals Are Super Adorable! has been serialized on the Shonen Jump+ app and website since 2019. Shueisha also publishes it in English on the MANGA Plus app and website. The manga was adapted into an anime television series that aired from January to March 2024.
The story follows Tsubasa Shiki, a teenager from Tokyo who relocates to Kitami in Hokkaido, Japan’s northernmost prefecture. Struggling to adapt to rural life, Tsubasa meets Minami Fuyuki, a local girl who becomes a significant part of his life. Minami, a fan of the gal subculture with her blonde hair and trendy winter outfits, takes an interest in Tsubasa. As she helps him adjust to his new surroundings, Tsubasa finds himself drawn to Minami’s bold personality, and their relationship grows deeper.
The anime adaptation, produced by Silver Link and Blade, was initially slated for a 2023 release but faced delays. Directed by Misuzu Hoshino and with Mirai Minato as the chief director, the series features character designs by Katsuyuki Sato. Crunchyroll licensed the anime, and episodes are also available on It’s Anime’s YouTube Channel.
With over 300,000 copies sold, Hokkaido Gals Are Super Adorable! has proven to be quite popular. The first collected volume saw a reprint shortly after its December 2019 release due to high demand. As the series approaches its conclusion, fans are eagerly awaiting to see if Tsubasa and Minami’s story will reach a satisfying end. Stay tuned for more updates!
