That the Los Angeles Dodgers even had a shot at winning Saturday’s game in San Francisco is pretty impressive.
First off, Tyler Glasnow was yanked after giving up five runs in just three innings. Then, Daniel Hudson had to Houdini his way out of a bases-loaded, one-out jam in the bottom of the 10th with the game tied. By forcing the game into the 11th inning, the Dodgers left no doubt about the final outcome.
After eking out a run in the 10th, the Dodgers piled on seven more against Giants reliever Sean Hjelle. The inning kicked off with an intentional walk to Shohei Ohtani, and from there, it was a hit parade.
Will Smith, facing an 0-2 count, doubled in both Ohtani and ghost runner Enrique Hernández to put LA ahead 9-7. Freddie Freeman followed with a double of his own, extending the lead to three runs. After a Teoscar Hernández single, Chris Taylor brought in Freeman. Jason Heyward then drove in both Hernández and Taylor with a triple before scoring himself on a Miguel Rojas sacrifice fly.
Ryan Yarbrough swiftly dispatched San Francisco in the bottom half to seal a 14-7 victory.
It’s as gritty as a seven-run victory can get. By overcoming an early deficit and navigating a nail-biting 10th inning, the Dodgers dodged a series loss in the Bay. Now, instead of just salvaging a game, they’re aiming for the series win on Sunday with James Paxton on the mound.
