In the quiet lull of late June on the NFL calendar, teams like the Seattle Seahawks find ways to engage fans year-round through creative content. Recently, the Seahawks’ social media team captured some fun moments with players sharing their favorite guilty pleasure songs, with defensive end/outside linebacker Dre’Mont Jones taking center stage.
Jones, known for his spirited engagement, is thankfully secure with a substantial three-year contract worth $51 million, signed last offseason. Recently, Seattle restructured parts of Jones’ contract, a move that trimmed $7.4 million from their 2024 salary cap obligations. This financial maneuver comes at a time when the team is assessing needs, particularly at edge rusher, center, and inside linebacker, following injuries to key players like Jerome Baker and Tyrel Dodson.

The restructuring coincides with a strategic positional change for Jones, who originally played as an interior defensive lineman. However, following the mid-season acquisition of Leonard Williams, Jones transitioned to the edge, where he notably improved his pass-rushing productivity. Encouraged by his development in this role, the Seahawks have committed to deploying Jones full-time on the edge this upcoming season.
As training camp approaches, the Seahawks’ coaching staff will determine Jones’ role relative to projected starters such as Uchenna Nwosu and Boye Mafe, alongside backups like Darrell Taylor and Derick Hall. The reshuffling within the roster and the salary cap adjustment reflect Seattle’s proactive approach to optimizing their defensive lineup for the challenges ahead in the upcoming NFL season.
