While we like to travel light and stick to a carry-on luggage, checking a bag for longer holidays or excursions with a lot of souvenirs may be the best option. Take a look at these items that, for reasons of both safety and convenience, you should never include in checked baggage before packing everything into your suitcase and sending it on its way.
Here are 5 items you should never pack in your check-in bag
1. Lithium Batteries
Lithium batteries are common in electronic devices such as computers, cellphones and cameras, making them essential for travel. However, lithium batteries that are shorted out or damaged pose a fire danger, which is why airlines ban checking them in.
2. Aerosols
There are rules for aerosol sprays that apply particularly for air travel. Only medicine or toiletry aerosols, such as insect repellent or hairspray, are permitted, and they must be properly capped. However, items such as spray paint, air freshener and cooking spray should be kept in your carry-on.
3. Important Documents
Travel documents, ID, boarding pass and passport should all be kept close at hand. Losing them might make your vacation less enjoyable because you’ll need them for security and check-in. Obtaining copies at the airport may be quite a trouble particularly if you’re traveling abroad.
4. Bug spray
Most airlines permit skin-applied insect repellent, however, any bug spray aimed at insects or into the air is not allowed for checked baggage. If you must bring insect spray, put your personal safety first and keep it in your carry-on bag.
5. Medications
Carry all prescription and necessary medications in your carry-on. This guarantees that you have them on hand in case of delays or missing luggage. Or worse, if you require them during the journey.
