Anjali and legendary Tollywood actor Nandamuri Balakrishna have always had a “great friendship,” according to the actress’ official statement regarding the entire incident, which was released the day after the actor received harsh criticism on the internet for pushing Anjali on stage during an event and “disrespecting” her.

Anjali posted a collage of images from the pre-release screening of her movie, Gangs of Godavari, which was the scene of the incident, on social media. The footage of Balakrishna pushing her was also featured in the video.

“I want to thank Balakrishna Garu for gracing the Gangs of Godavari pre-release event with his presence,” she wrote, along with the video.

To shut the chatter once and for all, she added, “I would like to express that Balakrishna garu and I have always maintained mutual respect for each other and we share a great friendship from a long time. It was wonderful to share the stage with him again.”

For those who don’t know, a video from the Gangs of Godavari pre-release event went viral online. In it, the main guest, Balakrishna, was seen gracing the stage and nearly sending Anjali flying. Anjali was seen laughing it off, while her co-star Neha appeared shocked. However, the incident did not go over well with internet users.

Online commenters expressed sympathy for Anjali and said that Balakrishna had “misbehaved” with her. When filmmaker Hansal Mehta published the footage, he too questioned, “Who is this scumbag?” Some criticised the legendary actor for his ‘pathetic’ actions.

Balakrishna has not yet made an official comment regarding the entire event.
