SunRisers Hyderabad (SRH) rewrote numerous records during their match against Rajasthan Royals (RR) in the IPL 2024 on May 8. Here are the remarkable feats achieved by the team:

Powerplay Dominance:
– SRH’s 107/0 is the second-highest Powerplay total in all T20 cricket, behind their own 125/0 against Delhi Capitals (DC) earlier in the season.
– SRH becomes the first side to breach the 100-run mark in the Powerplay on two separate occasions.
– The 80-run difference in Powerplay totals between SRH (107/0) and Lucknow Super Giants (27/2) is the highest ever in an IPL match.

Travis Head’s Heroics:
– Head registered his fourth 50+ score inside the Powerplay in IPL 2024 – the most by a player in a single edition and second-most overall after Chris Gayle’s six.
– Head scored three fifties in fewer than 20 balls in IPL 2024 – the joint most by any batter in the history of the competition, alongside Jake Fraser-McGurk.

  • Blistering Partnerships:
    • Head and Abhishek Sharma reached their 100-run partnership in just 34 balls, the fewest by any pair for a century stand in IPL.
    • Their 150+ partnership against LSG is the first-ever such-meaning stand for any wicket against Lateral Seams XI.
  • Rapid Scoring:
    • SRH hit 100 in just 5.4 overs, which is the third quickest in all T20 cricket.
    • At the halfway stage, their 167/0 is the highest by any team in an unabridged innings in IPL, beating their record of 158/4 against DC earlier this season.

Chasing a Record:

  • For the first time in the history of IPL, a team had chased a target of under 100 with the most balls to spare. SRH overhauled the 150 target with 62 balls to spare based on the revised target of 167 in the rain-interrupted match, the most balls remaining in an IPL match. The previous best was a 57-ball win by Delhi Capitals in 2022 over Royal Challengers Bangalore chasing 100 runs.
  • SRH chased a 150-plus target in the earliest over in all Twenty20s overtaking a 34-ball chase by Brisbane Heat over New Zealand in 2018.

Hitting a Six:

  • This was the third time in IPL history that 1000 sixes have been hit by players of all the teams in a single edition. This season witnessed bowlers being hammered 1000-plus sixes across all the matches including the play-offs and final.
  • With a total of 146 sixes hit in 2024, SRH also surpassed its previous score of 145 sixes in a single edition of IPL in 2018, covering 60 matches.
  • With all these records created by SRH this season, it can rightly be called the season in the sun for the franchisees.
