An empty local train coach derailed this morning near the Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Terminus (CSMT) station in south Mumbai, authorities confirmed. Fortunately, no passengers were injured in the incident.
The cause of the derailment is currently under investigation by railway authorities.
CSMT, a UNESCO World Heritage Site and a historic railway station, serves as the headquarters of the Central Railways. It is one of Mumbai’s most critical transit hubs, handling both suburban train and long-distance rail traffic daily.
A local train coach had derailed at the Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Terminus (CSMT), one of the busiest railway stations in Mumbai, authorities confirmed. According to the Central Railway’s statement, one trolley of the Panvel local train number 56 derailed while arriving at Platform No. 2 of CSMT around 11:35 am. The trolley ran off the tracks as the train was pulling into the station.
Railway officials were quick to respond, and no other trains or rail operations were affected apart from the Harbour line services. Enroute trains headed towards CSMT were stopped at Masjid station, while Harbour line trains were operational only between Vadala and CSMT.
