When Shah Rukh Khan returned to the big screen in 2023 with Pathaan, he left everyone utterly impressed. Everyone enjoyed the film, and it was a box-office success. However, according to a new source, Yash Raj Films plans to start working on Pathaan 2 very soon.
According to Peeping Moon, Shah Rukh Khan will likely begin filming Pathaan 2 by the end of the year. Unlike the original Pathaan film, Siddharth Anand will not direct the sequel. However, the director who would replace Anand for Pathaan 2 has yet to be announced.
“Aditya Chopra is strategically choosing the directors for each YRF spy universe film and has never repeated directors for its sequel movies, as is evident from the Tiger and War sequels. The tradition continues with Pathaan 2 as well, with Siddharth Anand stepping aside for a new director to offer a fresh perspective to Shah Rukh’s swashbuckling spy character,” a source cited by the entertainment portal claimed.
“While the director for the sequel hasn’t been finalised, plans are underway to take the project on the floor by the end of this year,” the insider added.
It should also be mentioned that Siddharth Anand’s involvement with YRF will continue despite his departure from Pathaan 2. The filmmaker will shortly direct Tiger Vs Pathaan.
Pathaan, which premiered in January 2023, marked Shah Rukh Khan’s return to the big screen following his 2018 film Zero. Pathaan also starred Deepika Padukone and John Abraham in major roles. The film garnered an incredible response from everyone and grossed more than Rs 1000 crore at the box office.
Pathaan 2 will be the eighth installment in the YRF spy universe, following Salman Khan’s Ek Tha Tiger, Tiger Zinda Hai, War, Pathaan, and Tiger 3. Hrithik Roshan and Jr. NTR are presently working on War 2, after which YRF will have an untitled Spy Universe movie with Alia Bhatt.
