Billie Eilish doesn’t approve the artists who put out multiple unique vinyls for their albums, unless they do it in a sustainable way.
The Grammy winner and her mother, Maggie Baird, recently sat down with Billboard to discuss how the singer is constantly looking for sustainability throughout her career, since she rose to fame. For her 2022 Happier Than Ever tour, she partnered with REVERB, a nonprofit that addresses environmental concerns in the music industry, to serve plant based meals for the artists and crew. In 2023, the singer partially used zero-emissions battery systems on her Lollapalooza set to set up a temporary ‘solar farm’.
During the conversation, Billie opened up about one particular practice in the music industry that she finds wasteful. “We live in this day and age where for some reason, it’s very important to some artist to make all of different vinyl and packaging.. which ups the sales… and gets them more money,” said the singer.
She added that she gets frustrated because of some of the biggest artists in the world, who makes 40 different vinyl, just to have a unique thing, which will ultimately be bought more.
