Rishabh Pant, gearing up for his much-anticipated return to the IPL later this month, is eyeing a potential comeback for India in the T20 World Cup, provided he can resume wicketkeeping duties, according to BCCI secretary Jay Shah.

Shah expressed optimism about Pant’s fitness, stating, “He is batting well, he is keeping well. We will declare him fit very soon.” He emphasized Pant’s significance to the team, highlighting the possibility of his inclusion in the T20 World Cup squad if he can maintain his wicketkeeping form.

Pant has been sidelined since a serious car accident in December 2022, which resulted in a severe right knee injury necessitating ligament reconstruction surgery, along with a fractured wrist and ankle.

However, his coach at Delhi Capitals, Ricky Ponting, had earlier confirmed Pant’s participation in the IPL. Moreover, Capitals’ co-owner Parth Jindal revealed that Pant has commenced wicketkeeping practice and is expected to be fully fit for the IPL, indicating a promising return to action.

With the IPL serving as a litmus test for his fitness and form, Pant aims to lead from the front and secure his spot in the national team for the upcoming T20 World Cup, signaling his determination to bounce back stronger than ever.
