FC Barcelona talisman Lionel Messi missed training on Monday with speculations that the Argentine icon no longer considers himself a part of new manager Ronald Koeman’s squad.

La Liga backs FC Barcelona on a stand where if Messi were to leave Camp Nou for a switch then the release clause of 700 million euros will have to be paid.

Messi’s father Jorge Messi is set to meet the club officials and the President Josep Bartomeu on Wednesday to discuss the 33-year old’s future. By not turning up for the first training session with the team amidst  a new La Liga season, Messi further solidifies his stance on leaving the club after the disappointments he has faced over the years and the recent 8-2 thumping by FC Bayern in the champions league.

Messi believes that the season ended in August due to COVID 19 which enables him to walk away from the club for free as per his contract clause.

The 10 time a La Liga winner, 4 Champions league title and 6 ballon d’or winner had asked the club to activate the clause and end his contract with the club for a possible reunion with Pep Guardiola at Manchester City. He would also feel at home at Manchester City with his buddy Sergio Aguero. Along with Man City, Paris Saint Germain and Manchester United are also said to be chasing the Barcelona forward for his signature.

At the age of 33, Messi surely sees the light at the end of the tunnel and also knows he has probably a couple of good years to be at the top level of the game. A move to Primer league is a mouth watering prospect for the fans, but at 33 can Messi do what he does in the Premier league at a cold night in Stoke or Manchester is the question. It would be end of a fairy tale journey of Messi with Barcelona which lasted for almost 20 years if the move to Man City would take place.
