Emmy award-winning director Richie Mehta is all set for the release of his next directorial ‘Poacher.’ After making headlines with his incredible show Delhi Crime, the director is exploring another vital theme. His upcoming series Poacher is based on the high-scale racket of elephant poaching in the state of Kerala. Based on a crime-drama theme, the series is co-produced by Alia Bhatt.
On Thursday, Alia Bhatt shared the trailer video of Poacher in a joint post with Prime Videos. She captioned the video, “a story of one of the biggest crime rackets in India”
The trailer video starts by showcasing the scenic forests of Kerala. The focus then goes on to an elephant who is targeted by the hunters. The scene then shifts to the investigative officers who discuss how poaching has become prevalent now after being out of the picture since the 1990s.
Investigation officers are portrayed by Dibyendu Bhattacharya and Nimisha Sajayan. The trailer shows how these two go on a mission to probe the biggest crime racket in India, which had minted Rs 1 crore crore. The promotional video also shows how poaching isn’t confined within the borders of India but is prevalent globally as well.
A few days ago, Alia Bhatt shared a video wherein she was seen inside a jungle with police officers. The video depicted how Alia came across the killing of an elephant, who was just nine years old. Captioning the video, she wrote, “I spent less than a day in the jungle to shoot this awareness video, but it still gave me chills. Murder is Murder…and I can’t wait for you to see the full story through the eyes of #RichieMehta and our stellar cast @nimisha_sajayan @roshan.matthew @dibyenduofficial.”

Poacher is a wildlife crime series, which is inspired by true events. The series will portray the issue of ivory poaching in India. Directed by Richie Mehta, it is produced by QC Entertainment’s Edward H. Hamm Jr, Sean McKittrick, and Raymond Mansfield in association with Alia’s Eternal Sunshine Productions, Poor Man’s Productions and Suitable Pictures.
