New Zealand’s decisive five-wicket victory over Sri Lanka in the ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup 2023 has practically secured their spot in the semifinals, dealing a significant blow to Pakistan’s aspirations. Pakistan now faces an almost insurmountable task of beating England by 287 runs or successfully chasing down a target with 284 balls remaining in their last league match to surpass New Zealand’s net run-rate and advance to the semis against India.

Reacting to Pakistan’s challenging predicament, former Indian cricketer Virender Sehwag took to X (formerly Twitter) with a playful taunt. Mocking the popular slogan “Pakistan Zindabaad” (Long Live Pakistan), Sehwag humorously suggested, “Pakistan Zindabhaag! Have a safe flight back home,” playfully translating to Pakistan run away alive.

As the dust settles on the league stage, the semifinal pairings for the World Cup 2023 are nearly set. India is poised to clash with New Zealand at Mumbai’s Wankhede Stadium on November 15, recalling their showdown in the 2019 World Cup semifinals. Simultaneously, South Africa and Australia are set to battle it out at Kolkata’s Eden Gardens on November 16. The much-anticipated final awaits the winners of these encounters on November 19 at Ahmedabad’s Narendra Modi Stadium.

While South Africa and New Zealand have yet to secure an ODI World Cup title, India boasts two championships. Australia remains the most successful team in the tournament’s history, with five 50-over World Cups to their credit (1987, 1999, 2003, 2007, 2015).
