In a one-sided encounter at Kolkata’s Eden Gardens on Tuesday, Bangladesh faced a crushing defeat against Pakistan, marking their exit from the World Cup 2023 semifinal contention.

Despite winning the toss, Bangladesh struggled to set a competitive total, getting bowled out for just 204 runs in 45.1 overs. Pakistan’s bowlers exploited the situation, with Tanzid Hasan falling for a duck in the first over.

Although Litton Das and Mahmudullah’s partnership briefly revived Bangladesh’s hopes, Litton’s dismissal at 45 disrupted their momentum.

Mahmudullah’s valiant 56 and contributions from Shakib Al Hasan (43) and Mehidy Hasan Miraz (25) pushed Bangladesh past the 200-run mark.

In reply, Pakistan’s openers, Fakhar Zaman and Abdullah Shafique, displayed remarkable prowess, stitching a formidable 128-run partnership for the first wicket. Fakhar, named the Player of the Match, was particularly aggressive, scoring 81 off 74 balls, including seven sixes.

Abdullah contributed 68 off 69 balls, guiding Pakistan to a comfortable victory with 105 balls to spare. With this win, Pakistan solidified their position in the World Cup and pushed Bangladesh out of the semifinal race.
