In a triumphant return to the national ODI set-up, Bangladesh’s Mahmudullah showcased his mettle at the Wankhede Stadium during the ongoing ICC World Cup. The veteran batter, who had been sidelined for six months following the home series against England, made a stellar comeback, marking his return with a remarkable century.

Reflecting on his journey, Mahmudullah remained composed, stating, “I can’t say anything regarding that time (when I was out of the national team). I do want to talk about a lot of things but this is not the right time to talk about.” His patience and determination were evident as he navigated the challenges, emerging stronger and more focused.

Despite being initially relegated to a lower batting order, Mahmudullah accepted his role gracefully, emphasizing, “I have seen a lot of ups and downs throughout my career. (Batting down the order) is fine.” His adaptability shone through as he played a pivotal role at number eight, showcasing his resilience and adaptability.

Addressing his innings, Mahmudullah revealed, “I didn’t target my hundred. I was just batting. You just bat. I told Mustafiz to hold on. Let us stay for 50 overs as there’s an issue for run-rate. I just wanted to go deep, and try to score some runs for the team.” His dedication to contributing to the team’s success was evident, reflecting his unwavering commitment to the game.

In a heartfelt gesture, Mahmudullah dedicated his century to his family and expressed gratitude to those who stood by him during his challenging period. “I would like to dedicate it to my family and those people who supported and prayed for me in the last three months. I want to thank those among you who supported me, and those who didn’t support me.”

His innings not only marked a personal triumph but also stood as a testament to the power of resilience and unwavering determination, inspiring cricket enthusiasts worldwide.
