In a heartfelt announcement made in Bangkok on October 18, former Thailand cricket captain Sornnarin Tippoch officially retired from international cricket, marking the end of a remarkable 16-year playing journey. Tippoch, who led Thailand to their inaugural T20 World Cup appearance in the 2020 mega-event held in Australia, expressed her gratitude and emotions in a retirement statement.
“Today, I am officially announcing my retirement as a cricket player. I am extremely honoured and privileged to have been able to wear the Thailand colours with pride and passion,” stated Tippoch.
Beginning her cricketing journey in 2008, a time when the national women’s team did not hold international status, the 37-year-old off-spinning all-rounder represented Thailand in 75 T20Is (39 of which she captained) and 9 ODIs. Under her captaincy, Thailand Women achieved a remarkable feat, surpassing Australia’s record for most consecutive wins in Women’s T20Is, totaling 17 victories from July 2018 to August 2019.
Tippoch’s final appearance for Thailand was in the recently-concluded 19th Asian Games, notably in the quarter-final clash against Sri Lanka.
In her statement, she expressed deep gratitude towards cricket, coaches, the Cricket Association of Thailand, and her teammates, both past and present. Tippoch highlighted her proudest moment as leading her team to the World Cup in Australia, despite the challenges faced along the way.
Embarking on a new chapter, Tippoch has embraced her role as a Development Coach at the Cricket Association of Thailand (CAT). As she transitions into this coaching role, she aspires to inspire and mentor the next generation of Thai cricketers, sharing her wealth of experiences to nurture budding talent.
