There seems to be a split in Karnataka’s Janata Dal (Secular) party, as the party’s state chief CM Ibrahim has opposed the party’s move of joining hands with the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) at the Centre. Ibrahim, after meeting with party members, told reporters: “Our first decision is that the JD(S) will not go with the NDA. The second decision was a request to Deve Gowda that he should not give his consent to this alliance.”
“We will tell him that we should not have any relation with BJP. We will try to persuade Gowda with the core panel formed consisting of members to convey the decision to him,” said Ibrahim. The meeting was named as “Chitana-Manthana”, as convened in Bengaluru hosted by the former Union minister Ibrahim.
On being further questioned on whataboutism, if Gowda refuse the decision, Ibrahim replied “If Deve Gowda and Kumaraswamy (Son of Gowda) have decided to go with the BJP then let them go. I am the state president. I have to decide about my party in the state, which I will take.”
After meeting Union home minister Amit Shah and BJP president JP Nadda in New Delhi, on September 22, Kumaraswamy announced his decision to be part of the NDA with aim to jointly conquer the upcoming 2024 general elections.
