Renowned composer and musician AR Rahman has initiated legal action against the Association of Surgeons of India (ASICON) amid an ongoing controversy stemming from the Chennai concert incident. The acclaimed artist, who recently found himself under scrutiny following the aforementioned concert’s cancellation, now finds himself at the center of a dispute over allegations made by ASICON. The association alleges that Rahman accepted a sum of Rs 29 lakh for a concert that was ultimately never performed. In response to these claims, Rahman’s legal team has issued a defamation notice, seeking a compensation of Rs 10 crore.

This legal notice, dispatched to ASICON, requests the withdrawal of the complaint within a span of three days. Rahman vehemently denies any involvement in the alleged impropriety, firmly asserting that the transaction occurred without his knowledge and involved third parties. The notice also calls for an unequivocal apology from ASICON for its attempts to besmirch the artist’s sterling reputation.

In the event that ASICON fails to meet the stipulated compensation demand, Rahman’s legal representatives have not ruled out the possibility of pursuing both civil and criminal proceedings. They underscore the gravity of the situation, highlighting that the substantial Rs 10 crore demand underscores the severity of the damage inflicted upon the musician’s public image.

The origins of ASICON’s complaint trace back to 2018 when the association claimed that AR Rahman had received Rs 29 lakh for a concert that ultimately failed to materialize. As this legal battle continues to unfold, it adds an additional layer of complexity to the recent controversies surrounding the celebrated musician.
