A storm of controversy has engulfed the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) following the release of a commemorative video on the nation’s 76th Independence Day. The video, intended to celebrate Pakistan’s cricketing heritage, has sparked outrage due to its glaring omission of legendary cricketer and former Prime Minister, Imran Khan.

Khan’s absence, despite his pivotal role in leading Pakistan to its historic 1992 World Cup victory and his significant contributions beyond the cricket field, has led to widespread criticism and disbelief. Former cricketer Wasim Akram publicly expressed shock and demanded an apology from the PCB.

After long flights and hours of transit before reaching Sri Lanka, I got the shock of my life when I watched PCB’s short clip on the history of Pakistan cricket minus the great Imran Khan… political differences apart but Imran Khan is an icon of world cricket and developed Pakistan into a strong unit in his time and gave us a pathway… PCB should delete the video and apologise –  Wasim Akram on “X” (Twitter).
The omission has ignited fervent discussions across social media platforms, with hashtags like “#ShameOnPCB” trending. This controversy underscores the profound impact cricketing icons wield and highlights the need for due recognition of their unparalleled contributions.
