Harmanpreet Kaur, the captain of India’s women’s cricket team, faced disciplinary action from the International Cricket Council (ICC) for her conduct during a match against Bangladesh. The ICC imposed a two-match ban on Kaur and fined her 75 percent of her match fee. The action was taken in response to her on-field behavior and verbal criticism directed towards the umpires.

Kaur admitted to “showing dissent at an umpire’s decision” and “public criticism in relation to an incident occurring in an international match,” accepting the punishment as per the ICC’s official statement.

What exactly happened?

During the one-day international match against Bangladesh, Kaur displayed her frustration by hitting the stumps after being given out on 14 runs. She openly expressed her dissatisfaction with the umpiring, describing it as “pathetic.” Moreover, Kaur’s actions extended beyond the field when she suggested her Bangladeshi counterpart, Nigar Sultana, to invite the umpires on stage during the post-match presentation, leading to the Bangladesh players opting out of a joint photo session.
