CBI through its Special Public Prosecutor Advocate DP Singh informed the Delhi court that a fresh chargesheet is filed in the case in contradictory to the existing chargesheet in the case since the alleged felony is committed with different modus operandi.
Lalu Prasad Yadav is accused of providing jobs in railways in exchange of land form the candidates or their relatives either as gifts or at cheaper rates. The probe in the case started two years beck but CBI officially registered the case last year. CBI filed a new case against Lalu and his family members in May 2022 accusing them of unfair land acquisition from candidates in railways when he served as the union railways minister in the UPA government. This was during the time when Lalu Prasad Yadav was released on bail in the fodder scam in which he was convicted by the special court.
Lalu and his family members are accused of allegedly obtaining land acquisitions in an unfair means against providing jobs to candidates in the appointment of ‘substitutes’ in the Group D posts in different zones of Indian railways between 2004 to 2009. The candidates were appointed within three days of applying in ‘undue haste’ by railways officials.
A number of residents in Bihar’s capital Patna transferred their piece of land as a gift to Lalu Prasad Yadav and his family and a private company which was run by the former CM. The transfers were done in the name of Rabri Devi, Lalu’s daughters Misa and Hema Bharti through deeds as claimed by CBI. There was no public advertisements or public notice issued for such appointments yet residents of Patna were appointed in zones like Mumbai, Jabalpur, Kolkata, Jaipur and Hajipur.
