With the announcement of the schedule for the ODI world cup 2023, 8 teams have sealed their place for the world cup while the others are fighting for the two spots remaining by playing the qualifiers for the world cup 2023.
The World Cup 2023 is hosted by India and 10 venues have been decided for the World Cup. The world cup will consist of 48 games played over a span of 46 days with the top four teams qualifying for the semifinals which will be played on November 15 and 16 and the finals will take place on November 19.
Both the first and the final match of the World Cup will be played at the Narendra Modi Stadium, Ahmedabad. Eight teams have sealed their places for the World Cup which include England, Australia, Bangladesh, New Zealand, Pakistan, Afghanistan, South Africa, and India. The rest of the two spots will be filled by the teams who will qualify through the qualifying matches.
One of the teams whom fans are calling the dark horses of this World Cup, Afghanistan has qualified directly for this world cup. This is the third ICC event in which they will be participating. The side will be led by Hashmatullah Shahidi who is the ODI captain for the team. The key players for the team can be Rashid Khan and Noor Ahmed as the Indian pitches are favored for the spinners.
The team recently played a 3-match ODI against Sri Lanka in which they lost by 2-1. They will play against Bangladesh in the month of July which will be 2 T20s and 3 ODIs.
This can be a great practice for the preparation of the World Cup for the Afghans. The first match for the team will be against Bangladesh on October 7, then against India on October 11, then against England on October 14, then against New Zealand on October 18, then against Pakistan on October 23, then against the team who will qualify second in the qualifiers on October 30, then against the team who will qualify at the first position from the qualifiers on November 3, then against Australia on November 7 and the last match will be against South Africa on November 10. The next stage will be the semifinals and then the finals if they qualify in the top four.
