The High Court of Balochistan has issued a stay order against the PCB chairman elections until July 17. Allegations have been raised that the Pakistan Cricket Board governing board, responsible for selecting the new chairman, was formed in violation of the 2014 constitution.
Multiple writ applications were filed, seeking to suspend the election process, and the Lahore High Court has accepted three petitions, scheduling a consolidated hearing for Tuesday.
The PCB chairman is traditionally chosen by the Prime Minister, and Zaka Ashraf was the favored candidate in this election. However, a management committee filed a lawsuit claiming improper constitution of the PCB board and rejection of Sethi’s list of nominees.
The dispute arose when certain cities were excluded from the schedule, leading to court intervention.
This case mirrors the previous legal battle between Sethi and Ashraf. The stay order highlights the ongoing legal challenges surrounding the PCB and the need for adherence to the constitution. The outcome of the court proceedings will significantly impact the future leadership and governance of the PCB.
