Pakistan’s participation in the World Cup 2023 remains uncertain as tensions escalate between the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB), International Cricket Council (ICC), and Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI).
The PCB is displeased with the ICC and BCCI’s rejection of their request to swap venues and the scheduling of the high-profile India vs Pakistan match in Ahmedabad. Seeking guidance from the Pakistani government, the PCB insists on obtaining clearance before traveling to India.
“The PCB requires the Government of Pakistan’s clearance for any tour to India, including the match venues. This position is consistent to what we had told the ICC a couple of weeks ago when they shared with us the draft schedule and sought our feedback,” a PCB spokesperson told GeoTV.
The World Cup schedule reveals that Pakistan’s campaign begins on October 6 against Qualifier 1 in Hyderabad. However, the PCB’s decision to participate hinges on government approval.
Additionally, Pakistan is dissatisfied with the BCCI’s move to partially relocate the Asia Cup 2023, resulting in Pakistan hosting only four matches while Sri Lanka hosts the much-anticipated India vs Pakistan clash and the tournament’s final.
