Ganemat Sekhon, a talented 22-year-old shotgun shooter, created history by securing India’s first skeet medal at a World Cup.
She, along with Darsha Rathore, has been named in the proposed list of shooters for the upcoming ISSF World Championships and the Asian Games.
Parinaaz Dhaliwal completes the trio of women skeet shooters for both events. Ganemat’s remarkable achievements include winning a medal in the junior World Championships and a bronze in the World Cup, and she recently added a silver in Almaty, Kazakhstan. Darsha’s bronze in Almaty was also significant, as it marked the first time India earned two individual medals in women’s skeet at a World Cup.
The men’s skeet team for the Asian Games and World Championships comprises Anantjeet Singh Naruka, Angad Vir Singh Bajwa, and Gurjoat Singh Khangura, while veteran shooter Mairaj Ahmed Khan didn’t make the cut.
The National Rifle Association of India (NRAI) considered scores from trials and international competitions in early 2023 for team selection. In the men’s trap section, Prithviraj Tondaimal, Zoravar Singh Sandhu, and Kynan Chenai secured their places, while former World Champion Manavjit Singh Sandhu missed out.
Among the women’s trap shooters, Manisha Keer, Preeti Rajak, and Rajeshwari Kumari earned their spots, while Shreyasi Singh and Shagun Chaudhary were not selected.
Rajeshwari’s impressive performance in the fourth round of trials, scoring 48 to secure victory, highlighted her skill.
