Chetan Sharma, the former Indian all-rounder, has made a comeback as the chairman of selectors, this time for the North Zone team. After previously resigning from his position as chief selector of the Indian team due to a sting operation controversy, Sharma chaired the North Zone selection committee meeting. The meeting, led by Anirudh Chaudhry, former treasurer of the BCCI, took place at the Gurgaon Cricket Ground on Thursday.
During the meeting, the Chetan Sharma-led panel finalized a 15-member squad for the upcoming Duleep Trophy, with Mandeep Singh being appointed as the captain. The tournament is scheduled to be held in Bangalore from June 28 to July 16. Additionally, the panel announced eight stand-by players and revealed the coach and support staff for the zonal side.
Chetan Sharma’s return marks a significant development after his resignation earlier this year. The Indian team has been without a chairman of selectors since then, with Sib Sundar Das serving as the interim chief selector. The BCCI is yet to initiate the process of finding a replacement for Chetan Sharma in the North Zone.
While the North Zone officials confirmed the meeting, they refrained from making any comments, stating that convenor Anirudh Chaudhry would be the appropriate person to address the media. However, Chaudhry could not be reached immediately for a statement.
The North Zone squad for the Duleep Trophy includes talented players such as Prabhsimran Singh, Prashant Chopra, Dhruv Shorey, and Sidharth Kaul, among others. The stand-by players include Mayank Dagar, Mayank Markande, and Ravi Chauhan, among others.
The support staff for the North Zone team consists of Coach Ajay Ratra, Physiotherapist Deepak Surya, Trainer Rajneesh Mehta, Performance Analyst Amit Sharma, Masseur Naresh Kumar Motla, and Manager Col. Ishan A Khan.
