India’s journey in the 2023-2025 World Test Championship (WTC) cycle is set to commence with a thrilling two-match series in the Caribbean, beginning on July 12. Dominica, which hasn’t hosted an Indian Test match in over ten years, will be the venue for the first encounter. The action will then shift to the iconic Queen’s Park Oval in Trinidad, which will stage the second and final Test starting on July 20.
Following the Test series, the focus will shift to limited-overs cricket, with three One Day Internationals (ODIs) and five Twenty20 Internationals (T20Is) scheduled. The tour is slated to conclude on August 13, with the last two T20Is taking place at the picturesque Lauderhill ground in Florida, USA. The Kensington Oval in Barbados will be the venue for the first two ODIs, after which the teams will return to Trinidad for the third ODI and the opening T20I. The second and third T20Is will be hosted in Guyana.
It was in July 2011 when India last encountered the West Indies in Dominica, playing the first-ever Test match at the Windsor Park stadium. Notably, local player Alick Athanaze, who recently impressed with the joint-fastest half-century on his ODI debut, has the potential to make his maiden Test appearance against India at his home ground, adding an extra element of excitement to the series.
As India embarks on this crucial phase of the World Test Championship, fans eagerly anticipate captivating cricketing battles and the emergence of new talents on both sides. The upcoming series promises to be an exhilarating clash between two formidable teams in beautiful Caribbean settings, captivating cricket enthusiasts worldwide.
