Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) player Venkatesh Iyer had a mixed season in the recently concluded Indian Premier League (IPL). While he managed to accumulate an impressive tally of 404 runs in 14 matches, the lack of consistency emerged as a major concern. Additionally, speculations arose regarding his fitness as he did not get an opportunity to bowl a single over. However, the 28-year-old clarified that he is fit to bowl but the team’s combination and strategy didn’t provide him with a chance.
Despite his personal performance, Iyer expressed his desire to replicate the impact created by Hardik Pandya in recent times. Under Pandya’s leadership, the Gujarat Titans clinched the championship in 2022 and reached the finals in 2023. Pandya has been exceptional with the bat and has made significant contributions with the ball as well. Inspired by his all-round abilities, Iyer expressed his ambition to become a complete all-rounder and contribute to his team in all three departments of the game, regardless of his batting position. Whether it is opening, playing in the middle order, or finishing games in the lower order, Iyer aspires to make an impact with the ball by bowling even during power play and death overs.
“I want to become ‘Venkatesh, a complete all-rounder’ and I want to contribute for the team in all three departments irrespective of the batting position,” Iyer said during an interview with India TV. He further expressed his admiration for Hardik Pandya, considering him as one of the best all-rounders in the world. Iyer is determined to replicate Pandya’s prowess and make a significant impact in every aspect of the game.
