At an event on 9th August, Prime Minister Narendra Modi spoke about his plans for the 12 Islands of Andaman and Nicobar.
At the event, he stated that the organic coconut-based products made in these islands are going to be exported from the region as a part of the ‘Atmanirbhar Bharat’ initiative that is being introduced by the Government. The government also plans to expand Port Blair to expand the islands’ air activity bringing setting it up for successful trading and tourism.
Speaking at an event with BJP workers the Prime Minister also said that the Andaman and Nicobar islands are strategically placed and could potentially become pivotal in world trade.
