In a surprising turn of events, former Chelsea midfielder Frank Lampard has reached an agreement to become the manager of the club for the remainder of the 2022/23 season. This comes after Graham Potter was sacked from the position just a few days ago.
Lampard, who spent 13 years as a player at Chelsea, has already had a taste of management, having previously managed Derby County and Chelsea. His time at Derby was largely successful, as he led the team to the Championship playoffs in his first season. However, his tenure at Chelsea was more mixed, with the team finishing fourth in the Premier League in his first season, but then struggling in the following campaign and being sacked halfway through.
Despite this, Lampard’s return to Chelsea has been met with excitement by many fans, who see him as a club legend with a deep understanding of the culture and ethos of the team. Some have even dubbed him “Super Frankie” in reference to his status as a fan favorite.
Lampard will have his work cut out for him, however, as Chelsea are currently languishing in mid-table in the Premier League, and face an uphill battle to qualify for the Champions League next season. He will also have to contend with a challenging fixture list, with games against Manchester United, Liverpool, and Manchester City coming up in the next few weeks.
