IPL 2020 is scheduled at the UAE in September this year. In a press release issued by BCCI and Vivo, they mutually decided to pause the partnership in 2020. This followed up with the pulling out of the smartphone brand from two more title sponsorships.
Vivo’s Pro Kabaddi League deal was worth Rs 60 crore a year. It paid Rs 30 crore to Viacom18-owned Colors TV channel for the reality show Bigg Boss.
Talking about Vivo’s Pro Kabaddi League title sponsorship, in 2017 it signed a deal with Star India for five years for 300 crores (2017-2021). The Corona pandemic led to the cancellation of the Kabaddi League in 2020. In such a situation, the company has approached Star India, majority shareholders of PKL, for deal termination.
This a big blow for Indian Sports. According to sources, the decision was made considering the India-China tension. VIVO has paused the 2020 edition of IPL but in case of PKL, they are looking to terminate the whole deal.
