Following Bayern Munich’s 2-1 loss to Freiburg on Tuesday, which knocked them out of the DFB-Pokal, director of sport Hasan Salihamidzic defended new coach Thomas Tuchel.

Salihamidzic insisted after the game that “It is bitter for all of us, but it has nothing to do with the coach. It’s a process. He makes an excellent impression and is doing a fantastic job. Today was bitter for all of us, but we will continue on Saturday. On Saturday, Bayern travels to Freiburg to face Christian Streich’s men for the second time this week.”

Bayern Munich lost to Freiburg in Thomas Tuchel’s second match in charge, ending their cup campaign in the quarter-final. Bayern took the lead inside 20 minutes but conceded twice in Tuchel’s first loss. Nicolas Hofler levelled things midway through the second half before Lucas Holer’s 95th-minute penalty saw Freiburg win at the Allianz Arena. Tuchel replaced Julian Nagelsmann less than two weeks ago. After leading Bayern to a 4-2 win over Borussia Dortmund in his first game in charge, he couldn’t prevent his team from being knocked out of the DFB-Pokal by Freiburg last night.
