Punjab Government has planned to distribute smart phones to school students. The step is taken in order to ensure that the school students of class 11 and 12th should not be deprived of technology.
Given the present situation of Covid – 19, when everything has become work from home ranging from office works to studies, children who don’t have smartphones are facing major setback.
Government of Punjab will distribute approx 1.78 lakh smartphones with pre installed various features and apps. The government of Punjab has signed contract with Lava International Ltd.
Distribution of the first batch of 50,000 smart phones will begin shortly. The distribution will be completed by November. Earlier it was made for girls,however later Chief Minister Amarinder Singh said that it will be distributed to both boys and girls who don’t have.
In 2018-19, the government of Punjab announced ‘Punjab Smartphone Connect Scheme ‘ in it budget. In this the government promised to distribute the phones to students majorly of class 11th and 12th. However due to Covid – 19 the process was late. This step is taken by the government as a measure to empower youth. So that they don’t face problems regarding furture due to major deprivation of technology .
